THREE CAPTIVATING JAZZ SHOWS COMING TO THE CAPSTONE THEATRE!

Three captivating jazz shows are coming to The Capstone Theatre in Liverpool as part of the venue’s exciting Autumn/Winter programme. Each award winning artists in their own right, Joy Ellis Trio, Phil Shotton & His Big Band and Alison Rayner Quintet are set to grace the theatre later this year. Joy Ellis Trio: Thurs 10th Nov, 7.30pm

Joy Ellis is a jazz pianist, singer and composer based in London and an alumni of Guildhall School of Music & Drama. In March this year Joy released her third album with long-time collaborators Henrik Jensen on double bass and drummer Adam Osmianski. Recorded at the end of May 2021 her new material has a relaxed and minimalist vibe in keeping with the album’s title, Peaceful Place.

Joy has toured all over the UK supported by the Arts Council, England performing her original music at various venues and festivals including Manchester, Cheltenham and London Jazz Festivals and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. Having had huge acclaim from Jazz FM, Jazzwise, London Jazz News and MOJO, you can be assured of a very special night indeed!

Phil Shotton At Forte & The Birthday Big Band: Thurs 17th Nov, 7.30pm

Phil Shotton, Saxophonist, woodwind player and bandleader celebrates his 40th birthday year with a fantastic set of gigs celebrating his love of the big band genre. Featuring wonderful big band arrangements, some of which have been specifically written for him, Phil leads the band through a programme designed to showcase Phil’s doubling skills on the saxophones and clarinets.

An eclectic mix of swinging standards, soft ballads, bebop and funk this concert is bound to have something for everyone, all delivered in Phil’s trademark humorous and engaging style. Phil Shotton regularly performs alongside many national and international jazz artists and has appeared at major jazz festivals, venues and music festivals throughout the country and abroad.

Alison Rayner Quintet: Thurs 1st Dec, 7.30pm

Led by bassist and composer Alison Rayner, multi award-winning quintet ARQ is widely celebrated from several years of extensive UK and European touring – and critically acclaimed for their three album releases August (2014), A Magic Life (2016) and Short Stories (2019). Their music combines richly nuanced compositions, rhythmic interplay and folk-infused melodies.

With many awards such as a 2019 Ivor Novello Composer Award and recent performances at the likes of Ronnie Scott’s and Pizza Express Jazz Clubs in London, you can be sure of a spine tingling and mesmerising performance in Liverpool! A very special night in store for sure!
