The super cool hangout re-opened in July 2023, to much excitement of locals who have dearly missed the legendary venue. Slinky’s is dog friendly and open 7 days a week, as a cool coffee shop in the day, a vibrant bar at night and always with a cracking playlist. There’s a Happy Hour from 4pm–7pm Mon–Thurs and in the evening you’ll find premium drinks from Glen Affric and Brimstage Brewery craft ales to fine wines. The 2023 version of Slinky’s now has live sport and a quiz night every Wednesday. There’s Tapas Thursdays every Thursday evening in collaboration with The Nook and you’ll find occasional acoustic evenings and events from DJ nights to mini art exhibitions.

Owner Simon Hughes said: “Re-opening Slinky’s has made me realise how much people have missed it these past 5 years. The reception has been overwhelming and it has been amazing to see old faces and new coming in to enjoy the new look of the place. It was a big refurbishment to get it back open but it’s looking stunning and the feedback has been incredible.”
He continued: “The place looks great but the key thing was to re-capture the same priceless atmosphere and vibe that the previous Slinky’s had. So many people have such fond memories of Slinky’s and it was important for me to try to re-create that magic — that feeling of a Cheers bar and a community hub that brings people together.”

The plan certainly seems to have worked — with a vibrant and bustling atmosphere inside and the renowned front terrace that has been the meeting place for countless catch ups between friends. Now established for a few months, Simon is planning to evolve the offerings and introduce cheese and charcuterie boards, a new cocktail menu and more events.

Simon explained: “Slinky’s is back and back to stay. It’s been a great first few months and now we’ve got ourselves re-established in West Kirby we’ll be looking at developing things and offering more going forward. I’ve come to realise that Slinky’s is much more than just a cafe bar — it’s an institution that people love dearly. I’m going to honour that by making it the best it can be.”

Simon summarised: “It’s been really heart-warming to see people enjoying this place again, although it’s not just been people from West Kirby. Like the old Slinky’s, we’ve had people travelling from far and wide to come and soak up the atmosphere in here. We need friendly meeting places like this in the community — it’s so important.”
