THE BLACK TOAD: HOYLAKE’S QUIRKY NEW MICRO PUB!

What’s The Black Toad about?

Situated at 32 Market Street and opened in July 2019, The Black Toad is a charismatic and quirky craft ale concept and something that Hoylake has been crying out for. With a custom made bar, a rustic style and little nooks and cosy corners to sit in, it’s a perfect place to relax and enjoy a quality drink and is open 7 days a week.

This quaint and artsy little gem also has a beautiful little beer garden at the back and it’s a great sun trap! Whilst enjoying a drink there, keep your eyes open for ‘Bo’ the black neighbourhood cat — she’s already become The Black Toad‘s mascot and she’s very popular amongst guests!

As with similar venues such as The Bow Legged Beagle, you can expect an interesting range of quality craft ales and beers. The Black Toad has 6 kegs, 3 cask ales and a fridge full of fascinating flavoured beers and ciders, so you can be assured of variety. One thing for sure is you’ll have plenty to choose from!

At The Black Toad they constantly revolve their range, so each time you visit you can expect a new experience. For those who don’t necessarily like beers, craft ales and ciders, they have a quality wine range (at a very reasonable price) and over 20 gins, rums and other spirits.

We visited to have a chat with the owners and enjoyed a couple of pints of mango flavoured cider. Owner Robin told us: “We’ve only been open a couple of months but the response so far has been amazing! People have been saying it’s just what Hoylake needs, adding to the great places to drink here already.”

Co-owner Shell continued: “We’re local people and very much a family run independent, so we’re all about the community and creating a great place for people to drink and socialise. We want this to be a place where people can chill in a relaxed environment with a great range of interesting and quality drinks.”

With only a handful of places to drink in Hoylake, The Black Toad is a welcome addition to the seaside town. We love their concept and the quirky little place they’ve created. We love the cosy layout and the gem of a beer garden at the back.
