EXCLUDED FROM SCHOOL NOW A MENSWEAR ENTREPRENEUR!

An 18-year-old from Wirral has become a successful entrepreneur despite being kicked out of school when he was 14 years of age. Joel Speed made money in I.T and cryptocurrency as a teen and has now founded Josp Attire — an affordable menswear brand that’s making waves in the fashion industry.

A ‘class clown’ who was excluded from high school for fighting in Year 9, Joel was told he’d never be successful without qualifications. Determined to redeem himself and prove the doubters wrong, he learnt how to code and began trading and selling usernames on the Xbox and traded in cryptocurrency — making vast amounts for his age.

Living the high life at an early age, Joel enjoyed designer clothes but this led him to another entrepreneurial endeavour. Realising that many other young people can’t afford top fashion brands, he began selling second hand clothing from brands such as Nike and Under Armour on Vinted for a fraction of the retail price. Taking it one step further, he decided to create his own menswear brand.

Offering stylish t-shirts, shorts, tracksuit bottoms, jackets and caps, Josp Attire gives men a quality yet affordable alternative to the top brands. Recognising the rising costs of both sportswear and everyday clothing, it was born out of a need for change, offering high-performance activewear at a price that doesn’t break the bank. The brand has really taken off, with over 1,000 sales since forming in June 2024.

Joel explained: “I was a rebel in school and made mistakes but I was determined to become successful after being excluded. I’ve always been an entrepreneur, selling sweets in school and doing gardening and handyman jobs, so when I was kicked out of school I looked for ways to make money. I developed a tool to grab rare usernames on the Xbox and sold them, similar to how people sell web domains.”
He continued: “I traded in crypto also and made lots of money. I love high end designer clothing but realised that many people I know can’t afford to spend £200 or more on items of clothing. I knew there was a way of bridging the gap and providing the same kind of quality that’s far more affordable. It took a lot of sampling and getting family and friends to give feedback but I finally got a perfect final products.”

Josp Attire has been selling online all over the UK, with almost 2,500 social media followers already and the likes of DJ Lee Butler championing the brand. Joel has some big plans for the future, with men’s mental health collaborations and a retail high street presence in the pipeline as soon as targets are met. Joel’s key aim, however, remains to bridge the gap and offer people stylish menswear that’s affordable.

Joel summarised: “I’ve been really successful against the odds but it’s tough out there for many people with the cost of living. I want to bridge the gap and give men access to quality clothing that makes them feel great that they wouldn’t usually be able to afford. I also want to show other young people that you can turn it around if you make mistakes and you can be successful if you work hard and have the ambition.”
