From Community Connection to Calling
Through Love Pilates, Pauline has gained a formidable reputation as a top instructor and leading practitioner in her field, yet her journey into Pilates wasn’t part of a long term plan — it was sparked by a simple desire to connect. After moving to Hoylake in 2013 following a 16 year career as a school teacher, Pauline joined a local Pilates class to meet new people and settle into her new community. What happened next would change the course of her life.
When the class instructor announced she was retiring to Spain, she encouraged Pauline, whose natural ability and dedication were already clear, to train as a teacher and take over the sessions. Drawing on her extensive teaching background, Pauline embraced the challenge. She completed a yearlong course to qualify as a mat Pilates teacher, yet her curiosity didn’t stop there.
Determined to deepen her understanding, Pauline immersed herself in the original teachings of Joseph Pilates. Her passion was recognised in 2015 when she was invited onto the US “Thinking Pilates” podcast, shortly after heading to the prestigious Pilates International Heritage Congress in Germany, where she met Lolita San Miguel – one of the few remaining “Pilates Elders” personally trained by Joseph Pilates himself.

Training at the Source: Honouring the Pilates Legacy
Training directly under Lolita (and Joaquim Valsinger) in Scotland, Pauline widened her knowledge in both traditional Pilates and Lolita’s Legacy, giving her an exceptional level of understanding of the complete system of Pilates and how inventions such the Universal Reformer fit into it. A system which now shapes the experience and quality of the personal approach she delivers today.
“Lolita is a force of nature, even now at nearly 92” Pauline says. “She was strict and demanding, but it was a great honour to learn from her and a unique opportunity to be part of Pilates history. I have been handed the torch of true Pilates teachings and intend to share it and help others to discover the real magic of the method”.

Building A Thriving Wirral Community
Over the last decade, Love Pilates has grown into a thriving wellness community. Pauline delivers private sessions, group classes across West Wirral and online programmes, helping people improve their strength, mobility and overall wellbeing. Clients frequently share their lifechanging experiences that range from improved confidence, positive mindset and better quality of life.
One client said: “I’ve been attending Pauline’s classes for almost two years and I enjoy it so much and get so much from them. I’m more flexible, more mobile, my core has become much stronger, and the classes remind me to think about how I move myself day to day. I feel healthier, happier and more confident.”
At the heart of her success is an understanding that good things take time, as Joseph Pilates used to say “Rome was not build in a day”. Her appreciation of what makes us human and our role in being connected to the planet will always propel the evolution of Love Pilates Wirral.
Since starting out, Pauline has designed her own ethical merchandise, hosted and exhibited at National Wellness events and tries to source local and organic produce for events and retreats. Her strong relationship with the Greener Campsite at Camp Plas and her love of protecting our most valuable assets; our wellbeing, each other and the planet is what she believes is the bedrock of her momentum.

Retreats Rooted in Connection and Nature
But for Pauline, Pilates is always about more than the exercises; it’s about joy, connection, curiosity and overall health. Nowhere is this more evident than in her signature retreats in Wales. These immersive experiences blend Pilates with nature, echoing Joseph Pilates’ original philosophy, and include sound baths, meditation, sauna sessions, singing, dancing, outdoor cooking, aromatherapy, walks and even wild swimming.
Pauline explains: “When I launched Love Pilates in 2016, I wanted to create something more than classes – I wanted to build a supportive community to share the benefits of Pilates. It’s a thrill to see this has grown into an annual immersive experience in Wales, where the connection to nature is truly magical.”
She continues: “People arrive carrying the weight of everyday life, and by the end of the weekend it has melted away, it’s helped people discover the value of what they gain from our retreats and they return each year to reconnect with themselves and create unforgettable memories.”

Looking Ahead
While Pauline celebrates the past, her focus is firmly on the future. She is developing a community network for Pilates instructors to share knowledge and reduce the isolation that can come with the profession. Alongside this, she is developing her own teaching academy, combining decades of educational experience with elite Pilates training to develop and support the next generation of instructors. In Lolita’s words “Pauline is sharing the Pilates legacy across the Wirral”.
Pauline reflects: “It’s been quite a journey and I could never have envisaged all this during my teaching career. I attended a Pilates class as a way of seeking connection in a new town but it changed my life forever and I’m so very proud to help others in the same way during the past 10 years. They say it’s about the journey not the destination and this one has been truly awe-inspiring, yet I’m equally excited about the future.”
