Bessy is a chronic illness coach, motivational speaker and author. Her work has been highlighted through national media coverage, including press release features connected to major U.S. television networks and an iHeartRadio podcast appearance. Working with the nervous system, mindset and a range of different practises, she transformed from being a chronic illness survivor to a chronic illness thriver and now helps others do the same through her refined methods.

Bessy’s journey through chronic illness began at just 26 years old — and only six months into motherhood — when she was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. What began as fatigue, weakness and severe stomach issues during pregnancy quickly spiralled into a life-changing health crisis after the birth of her son.
“I truly understood what it meant to lose control not only of my body, but also of the life I thought I was building,” she explained. “Before illness took hold, I was fiercely independent and capable. I had worked since the age of 14, travelled alone to Greece every year as a teenager, and prided myself on always being the person others could rely on.”
But chronic illness changed everything. “People do not always understand that chronic illness does not politely wait until your responsibilities slow down,” she said. “It walks right into the middle of your life and expects you to adjust, while everyone else still needs you to be who you were before.”

As the disease progressed, daily life became dominated by pain, fatigue, medications, hospital visits and uncertainty. Over the years, Bessy endured severe complications including inflammation, fistulas, immune-suppressing medications, platelet transfusions, a temporary ostomy and multiple life-threatening infections including sepsis.
Within five years of her diagnosis, she was forced to stop working and go on disability — something she describes as a devastating identity shift. “I had always worked. I had always pushed through. Suddenly, my body was making decisions my pride was not consulted about,” she said.

By 2012, her condition had deteriorated dramatically. Malnourished and physically depleted, she struggled to care for herself, her home and her young son. Her mother stepped in to care for her full-time. “That is a very humbling thing when you are used to being the one who handles everything,” Bessy admitted.
In February 2013, after years of suffering, she underwent a gruelling 10-and-a-half-hour proctocolectomy surgery and was left with a permanent ostomy — a procedure that ultimately saved her life. But the emotional recovery was just as difficult as the physical one. “Living with an ostomy changes more than how your body functions,” she said. “It changes how you see yourself, how you move through the world, how you travel, how you dress, how you feel in your own skin.”

Then, in 2017, she was diagnosed with another painful inflammatory condition — Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) — adding another layer of physical pain, emotional exhaustion and isolation. For years, Bessy focused solely on surviving. But eventually, she realised symptom management alone was not enough and that realisation sparked a profound turning point.
In October 2023, after doctors told her there were no new treatments available for her conditions at that time, Bessy found herself asking one life-changing question: “Is this how I want to live for the rest of my life?” Her answer was simple: “No.”

From that moment, she began exploring a deeper, whole-body healing journey. Alongside traditional medical care, she turned to meditation, nervous system regulation, energy healing, pacing strategies, mindset work, journaling and self-reflection. “I had to stop treating my body like the enemy and start learning how to work with it,” she said.

Slowly, Bessy rebuilt trust in herself and her body. She learned to stop measuring her worth through productivity and began creating a life that worked with her body instead of against it. Those experiences eventually became the foundation for her coaching platform, Kefi Rising, and her healing framework, The Kefi Method.
The method combines nervous system support, meditation, identity work, grief processing, pacing and self-reconnection to help women living with chronic illness move beyond survival mode. “I did not create this work from theory,” Bessy explained. “I built it from lived experience.”

Today, Bessy is a speaker, writer, advocate, coach and two-time international bestselling author. More importantly, she says she finally feels connected to herself again — not the person she was before illness, but the woman she has become because of it. “The biggest improvement is that I feel more like myself again,” she said. “Not the old version of me, but the woman I am now.”
Her message to others living with chronic illness is one of compassion and hope. “Chronic illness can be brutal, lonely, exhausting and deeply humbling,” she said. “But healing is not just about surviving the illness. It is about reclaiming your identity, your joy, your confidence and your life in a way that respects the body you live in now.”

On Friday 3rd June 2026, Bessy will be travelling to Cheshire, UK, to give a talk at Womanifest — one of the largest women’s wellbeing festivals in the UK. Taking her motivational speaking and inspiring story of thriving through chronic illness to an international level, it’s a huge achievement given her grave situation just a few years ago.
