Here at La Vida Liverpool we love showcasing the abundance of musical talent our region has to offer. In this feature we talk to one of the North West’s only female rappers, Lozinky, who has developed her own R&B and hip hop style in a mainly male dominated UK industry.

Based in New Brighton, Wirral, Lozinky has performed at Liverpool One Festival, The Everyman, Kingdom nightclub, on the Mersey ferries and at various venues and events throughout the region. She has supported Ms Banks and Devlin and has performed at fashion shows and charity events.

Here we talk to here about what’s she’s been up to, what it’s like to be one of the only female rappers around and what her plans are for the future….

LVL: So, what have you been up to recently?

Lozinky: Recently I have been producing beats with Lozinky Productions  — all styles of beats from hip hop to grime, folk, EDM and house — for those who need or want any kind of beat I can produce to their needs. I also have been working on lots of new music to get ready for when I can start gigging again and release to the world.

LVL: How did you get into being a rapper?

Lozinky: I got into music through my uncle Danny who also is a musician. He use to run a music bus to help get the teenagers off the streets. I met other rappers and singers through the project and it went from there. Eventually I got to know more people in the industry and that’s where it all began.

LVL: Who are your main influences?

Lozinky: My main influences are 2pac as his music was mainly for the people, lots of wisdom and knowledge and I can really relate to that. Also Biggie Small — he was amazing.  Eminem also, as he grew up in poverty and always pushed himself no matter how hard the situation was — plus his music is genius. Lady Gaga too because she speaks for women — she is a strong woman with so much love and passion for her music and I can really relate to what she’s been through.

LVL: What’s it like being one of the only female rappers around?

Lozinky: Being a female rapper from the North West is different — you have to just be yourself and keep yourself going. The majority of rappers from around here are male rappers. As a female rapper I feel amazing doing what I do — it’s always been my passion — and hopefully I can inspire other females who want to get into rapping.

LVL: What advice do you have for any young girls wanting to become a rapper?

Lozinky: Be yourself, be strong and believe you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it. Never let anyone say different. Also, write stories and turn them into rap — put all your emotions into your writing and create a powerful message through your music. Take advice but never be told what to do!

LVL: What are your plans for the future?

Lozinky: My plans for the future are to finally be where I have been pushing myself to be — America! I’d love to go there and perform all my music, finally meeting all my music fans I have over there.
