Michael Franks, based at Liverpool One, is the highest rated salon on Salon Spy and has won many awards such as Best Salon In Merseyside, the L’Oreal Colour Trophy and Diversity & Inclusion Award at the LGBTQ+ Business Awards. The team have also appeared at Download Festival, London Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week, Copenhagen Fashion Week and The Liverpool Wedding Show during this past year.

To add to the salon’s commitment to innovation and forward thinking, green initiatives have been integrated into their operation. They’ve partnered with Kevin Murphy hair products — using recyclable packaging, paper and cardboard, product shape design, investing in regenerating and improving areas where ingredients are harvested, treating water and more.

Michael Franks also works with Green Salon Collective – such as collecting and recycling waste chemicals through hair colouring such as foil and colour tubes, recycling waste properly and collecting and recycling hair for things such as oil spills in rivers, lakes and sea. The salon uses disposable and compostable towels to cut down on energy when washing and drying and is on a green energy tariff.

Salon owner and celebrity stylist, Michael Franks, said: “We take great pride in being ethical in everything we do. We’re an inclusive salon and price our services on hair length rather than gender, for example, and cater for different religions such as Muslims who don’t wish to show their head in public. The environment is a big area of focus for us too, as salons do use a great amount of energy.”
He continued: “At Michael Franks Salon our aim to create an environment that both the client and staff member feel comfortable and confident to be themselves. As part of this we want to make sure they are happy we the choices that we make, one of the choices we make is to look do our best to limit the negative effect we have on the environment.”

In addition to running Liverpool’s No.1 salon and leading the way in many initiatives, Michael also engages in great causes. He and the team recently provided free services for the Strictly For Liverpool Women’s Hospital dancing event that raised £75,000 for the hospital and the salon is involved in the Hair & Care project for blind women and Hair Reborn that offers free treatments for chemotherapy patients.
Michael summarised: “Whatever industry you’re in and whatever you do, it’s important to come from a good place and lead with good values. In a world where there’s discrimination and injustice, and where humans have a negative impact on the planet, it’s important that we do our bit to bridge the gap and minimise that. We may be a very successful salon but it’s even more important for us to be conscious and ethical.”
