HOW LIPA ACADEMY IMPROVES MY MENTAL HEALTH AND CONFIDENCE!

Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts offers young people a platform to express their creativity and enhance their social skills. My name is Summer Black, I am 15 and I attend LIPA Academy on Saturdays outside of my school hours. On these Saturday mornings I do classes such as acting, singing and dancing.

LIPA helps improve your social skills, creative abilities and enhances you as a person. Before getting involved in acting and theatre clubs I was a very closed off child and wasn’t living up to my potential. LIPA provides teachers who specialize in performing arts and help you fulfil your dreams and ambitions — even by simply attending a Saturday class.
In acting there are a variety of different activities and these are done to help people who struggle with embarrassment or stage fright that many people deal with. The feeling of getting on stage is exhilarating especially after working so hard in classes to be at the level to perform. Performing is about stepping into the characters whole body and their emotions this can be done by many types of theatre techniques.

The teachers at LIPA never make people feel uncomfortable and always offer opinions and help to enhance your abilities that your capable of. During acting classes we use physical theatre, facial expressions, tone of voice, method acting and so much more.
In singing lessons everyone is a whole and students have the opportunities to become soloists that excel with the teachers coaching. Our teacher at LIPA helps us understand the music theory and gain confidence in their singing abilities. Teachers can help build students confidence by providing constructive feedback and offer more singing opportunities.

During our dance lessons students understand the importance to express yourself yourself through dance. Dance is a form of expression as it utilizes the body as the instrument, space as a canvas, and framework to convey meaning beyond spoken or written language.
Dance incorporates elements such as rhythm, dynamics, and spatial relationships to create a cohesive and impactive artistic statement. Dance can improve coordination, physical fitness, self expression and discipline. We do many different styles of dance contrasting between Hip-hop to Ballet.

LIPA can make you fall in love with one or all of the arts and I aspire to become involved in acting or musical theatre in the future. LIPA can help you by getting you into shows and not only does LIPA offer the opportunity to feature on stage and possibly play a main role, but they also offer Trinity Award exams. The exams take place once a year and you are assessed as a group on one of the pieces you have worked on over the past year.
Overall LIPA’s creative outlet reduces stress and can help enhance emotional wellbeing. Performing arts fosters confidence and self-esteem as individuals develop new skills and receive positive feedback. The social aspect of LIPA is you can meet people who become your friends who share similar interests and passions for performing arts. I would recommend LIPA to any young person who wants to develop their skills and peruse performing arts.
