Merseyside’s first ever ‘urban dog park’ has opened at The Dog Wash Company‘s site on Marcus Street in Birkenhead. Rural dog parks in large fields have become quite a hit over the last few years, but this quirky new urban dog park is the first of its kind in the region.

After six years of being an extremely highly rated dog groomers and shop, The Dog Wash Company has decided to open this colourful new attraction and it’s already creating a storm amongst dog lovers! The multi sensory custom made park features slides, ramps, tunnels, steps, a ball on a rope, mirrors, a paddling pool in summer and more — needless to say, the dogs are running wild in it!

Owner Jason Bennett said: “We’ve been thinking about creating this for a while but now we’ve finally done it and the dogs love it! Everything here is custom made and it’s been designed to have lots of different features for the dogs. We’ve gone for an astro turf floor and lots of plants and greenery to give it a feel of a secret oasis in a built up industrial area. It’s really cool and retro!”

The new park is currently being enjoyed by The Dog Wash Company‘s grooming dogs, but is now open to anyone wanting their dogs to have a fun play. The park is open Mon — Fri, 8am — 6pm, and the cost is £14 for half a day and £25 for a full day, with half price for every additional dog. Owners can drop their dogs off on the way to work or shopping, or there’s a collection service.

Jason explained: “We’re expecting to be very popular so we’re just open Mon — Fri at the moment but we’ll soon be opening at weekends for private hire and dog ‘pawties’. The dog parties will be really good fun and will give people the chance to put on a special party for their dog and its friends with exclusive use of the park, decorations, dog cake, a dog sound track and a dog mascot.”

The park is the latest development from The Dog Wash Company, who have developed an amazing reputation for dog grooming during the past six years, gaining a 5* Licence. The fully qualified staff have boundless passion for dog care and offer the very best quality half grooms, full grooms, baths, nail trimming, teeth cleaning, spa treatments and more.

Head Groomer Becky told us: “All our staff are extremely passionate about dog care and we love our jobs so much we often come in on our days off. We offer all the usual dog grooming services but the spa treatments are really unique and we specialise in things such as mud baths and facials for dogs — all with their own health and wellbeing benefits.”
She continued: “We care about dogs so much and see ourselves as an all round service. We give advice to the owners and help train the dogs and in the past we have detected things such as pregnancy and cancer early for the owners. The new dog park is a great addition to what we do and it’s been lovely to see the dogs running wild and free — the owners are grateful too as their dogs have exercised and released so much energy.”

The mental health of dogs is something that often gets overlooked by humans and many dogs are subject to too much time alone indoors — in many cases leading to lack of social interaction, an unfulfilled life and depression. The increase in dog parks has raised awareness and provided owners the opportunity to give their dogs a better and happier life.

The Dog Wash Company can be found on Marcus Street in Birkenhead, just opposite the end of Corporation Road, and it’s open 7 days a week for dog grooming services. The new dog park is currently open Mon– Fri but will soon be open 7 days a week too. All types of dog are considered and all go through a careful induction process to ensure they are integrated safely.
